Julia Weinberg

Hi, I'm Julia! I was born and raised in Berkeley, which is also where I live today. I received my BA in Film from Vassar College in New York, and I've been doing photography and videography in Jewish spaces for the last four years. Most recently I was Head of Communications for URJ Camp Newman in Santa Rosa before transitioning to freelance.

Like many a Bay Area Jew, Jewish summer camp (Camp Kee Tov in Berkeley!) is where I was first immersed in Jewish song, dance, and communal tradition. My first summer I was given the "Social Butterfly" award; now, as a photographer, I thrive off the community in which I'm taking photos. Rather than being awkward behind the camera, I love to interact with my subjects, capturing genuine joy in my photographs.

I was Bat Mitzvah'ed many years ago at Temple Sinai in Oakland. My portion was Beshalach, the splitting of the Sea of Reeds and Miriam's Song. While Judaism was a core part of my identity, it wasn't until I truly became an adult and went to college where I leaned into my Jewish community for guidance, love, and prayer.

Judaism is the deepest part of my identity and lifestyle.

Taking photos is my passion; Judaism is my community.
